SEAGRAM NAMES ROBERT A. MONROE AS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT TO HEAD THE COMPANY'S DIVERSITY EFFORTS

 NEW YORK, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. today announced the appointment of Robert A. Monroe as executive vice president, Diversity. In his new capacity Mr. Monroe will further strengthen the company's worldwide ongoing commitment to create and to maintain an environment that embraces diversity in the work force. Mr. Monroe will report to Edgar Bronfman, Jr., president and chief operating officer.
 "Bob has already demonstrated the effectiveness of his management and marketing skills and we are confident that he will deliver similar results for Seagram in his new role," said Mr. Bronfman. He added, "His talents and knowledge of the company will greatly assist us in achieving diversity in Seagram's work force, which is essential to our corporate mission and to our success in the future."
 Managing diversity has become an increasingly important goal at Seagram, as well as other corporations today, as it seeks to attract and to retain a multi-talented and diverse work force.
 Mr. Monroe will chair the Seagram Diversity Committee, which has been established and charged with the responsibility for developing, recommending, implementing and monitoring company-wide policies and procedures to advance diversity through recruitment, training, career development, promotion, investment and other programs.
 Mr. Monroe, formerly vice president, general manager for The House of Seagram's Southern Region, joined Seagram in 1964. He has since served in various sales and marketing positions for Seagram, including president of Summit Sales Co. and president of Perennial Sales Co. He is a 1964 graduate of Hofstra University.
 Active in the local community, Mr. Monroe serves on the board of trustees of the University of Tampa and is a member of the board of directors of the Florida Council of 100 and the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. He is also a member of the board of governors of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Monroe works closely with several organizations that help troubled youth: the Tampa Bay Male Club and the Tampa Marine Institute.
