SEAGRAM ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF WILLIAM PIETERSEN
NEW YORK, Oct. 2, /CNW/ - The Seagram Company Ltd. said today that William G. Pietersen, President of The Seagram Beverage Group and Tropicana Products, Inc., has announced his intention to resign from the Company effective January 31, 1993. Myron A. Roeder, President, International and Global Marketing, will coordinate Tropicana's activities until a permanent successor is named. He will report directly to Edgar Bronfman, Jr., Seagram's President and Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Pietersen has served as President of The Seagram Beverage Group since February of 1991 and has also headed Tropicana in Florida for the past year. However, due to family considerations he has decided to pursue career opportunities in the Northeast, but will remain with Seagram until the end of the current fiscal year in order to ensure a smooth transition with his successor.
Commenting on Mr. Pietersen's planned departure, Mr. Bronfman noted, "We are grateful to Willie for his valuable contributions to Seagram over the past four years. He is a talented and experienced executive who has served in Seagram's two major business segments -- spirits and juice beverages. I regret his decision but respect the choice that he has made on behalf of his family".
Mr. Bronfman said that there is no change to Seagram's previously stated commitment to Tropicana and the Company's strategy to make it a global brand. "Tropicana has made tremendous strides over the past several years, gaining market share in the U.S., opening new markets around the world and establishing Tropicana as a leading brand at an aggressive pace," he explained. "We plan to continue that course of expansion," he added.
Mr. Roeder has served with Seagram since 1982 in senior positions within the Company, including President of Seagram Far East and Seagram Europe. He has spearheaded the company's successful expansion into international markets and recently assumed responsibility for Tropicana's worldwide marketing efforts.
The Seagram Company Ltd. is a leading global producer and marketer of distilled spirits, wines, fruit juices, coolers and mixers, and sells its brands in more than 150 countries. Subsidiaries and affiliates in more than 30 countries comprise the largest distribution system in the spririts and wine industry.
