SCRIPPSHEALTH PURCHASE OF VALLEY MEDICAL COMPLETE; NEW ADMINISTRATOR NAMED

 SAN DIEGO, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- ScrippsHealth announced today completion of the purchase of Valley Medical Center in El Cajon, Calif., from EPIC Healthcare Group. Scripps also named Robin Brown vice president/administrator of what becomes Scripps Hospital -- East County.
 "From what we've experienced during the transition process, the employees and patients at Valley Medical Center will be well-served by ScrippsHealth. It is a top-notch organization," said Ken S. George, EPIC chairman and chief executive officer.
 The 172-bed hospital becomes part of the Scripps Memorial Hospital Division of ScrippsHealth joining four other acute-care hospitals and two convalescent hospitals serving the health care needs of San Diegans throughout the county. Brown reiterated ScrippsHealth's commitment for a smooth transition for patients, physicians, staff and the citizens of El Cajon.
 "The people of El Cajon and Scripps share many commonalities like commitment to community," says Brown, married and a father of four. "Scripps Hospital -- East County will be the catalyst for a healthier El Cajon through community-based health education programs and the strength of a solid comprehensive health care delivery system," Brown said.
 Since 1986, Brown has served as administrator of the organization's Affiliated Businesses group and has been instrumental in reviving the now-successful home health care durable medical equipment and convalescent hospitals. Formerly assistant administrator of Mercy Hospital and prior to that Mission Bay and Clairemont General Hospital, Brown is a respected health care professional experienced in guiding a facility in a rapidly changing health care environment.
 ScrippsHealth, which operates both Scripps Memorial Hospitals and Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, is the health care delivery arm of the Scripps Institutions of Medicine and Science. The Scripps Research Institute and the Scripps Foundation for Medicine and Science also are part of the Scripps organization.
