SCRIPPS HOWARD BROADCASTING COMPANY RELEASES YEAR-END RESULTS

 CINCINNATI, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Scripps Howard Broadcasting Company (NASDAQ: SCRP) today reported a 32 percent increase in fourth- quarter net income to $13.6 million, $1.31 per share, from $10.3 million, $1.00 per share, in the fourth quarter of 1991.
 For the full year, net income increased 53 percent to $36.8 million, $3.56 per share, from $24.1 million, $2.33 per share, excluding an unusual charge from 1991.
 The charge, taken against first-quarter 1991 earnings, was the result of a $12 million payment made by Sacramento Cable in connection with the settlement of a lawsuit. The charge reduced 1991 net income by $7.9 million, 77 cents per share.
 Fourth-quarter operating results
 Consolidated operating income moved up 13 percent to $31.5 million from $27.8 million in 1991. Revenues were up 7.2 percent to $107 million.
 Operating income from television and radio increased 11 percent to $25.7 million, boosted by strong political advertising revenue. Political advertising totaled $6.8 million versus $500,000 in the year- ago quarter.
 Total television and radio revenues increased 6.1 percent to $77.2 million.
 In the cable division, operating income rose 39 percent to $6.8 million on revenue growth of 10 percent to $29.4 million. New subscribers totaled 4,000 in the fourth quarter and 6,000 in the last 12 months for a total of 281,000 at year end.
 Full-year 1992 operating results
 Consolidated operating income improved 28 percent to $90.2 million, excluding the Sacramento charge from 1991. Revenues increased 12 percent to $390 million.
 Operating income from television and radio was up 22 percent to $70.3 million. Cable's operating income moved up 52 percent to $23.5 million, excluding the Sacramento charge.
 Scripps Howard Broadcasting, an 86 percent-owned subsidiary of The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP) operates 10 television stations, five radio stations and cable television systems with 281,000 basic subscribers.
