 Boy Scouts and citizens will be honored at the inaugural American Heroes Dinner.

Apollo astronaut Buzz Aldrin Colonel Buzz Aldrin, Sc.D (born January 20, 1930 as Edwin Eugene Aldrin, Jr.) is an American pilot and astronaut who was the Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 11, the first lunar landing.  will be among the guests, along with aircraft designer Burt Rutan Elbert Leander "Burt" Rutan (born June 17, 1943 in Estacada, Oregon) is an American aerospace engineer noted for his originality in designing light, strong, unusual-looking, energy-efficient aircraft. , and Mike Melvill Michael Winston "Mike" Melvill (born November 1941) is one of the test pilots for SpaceShipOne, the experimental spaceplane developed by Scaled Composites. Melvill piloted SpaceShipOne on its first flight past the edge of space, flight 15P on June 21, 2004, thus becoming the first  and Brian Binnie William Brian Binnie (born 1953) is one of the test pilots for SpaceShipOne, the experimental spaceplane developed by Scaled Composites.

Binnie was born in West Lafayette, Indiana, where his Scottish father was a professor of physics at Purdue University.
, who last year piloted Rutan's SpaceShipOne rocket plane into space.

``Scouting is not just going on outings,'' said Ronald Smith, Lancaster planning commission chairman and district chairman for Friends of Scouting, who is heading the event. ``The outings are a vehicle to teach the boys organizational and leadership skills which will be indispensable to their future. These young men may be among our future leaders.''

The dinner will be at 6 p.m. April 21 at the Essex House, 44946 10th St. W. Tickets are $125 each.

Awards to be given out include the newly established William J. ``Pete'' Knight Leadership Award, named for the late state senator and former Air Force test pilot, and a Distinguished Citizen Award. The dinner will also recognize Scouts for life saving and outstanding citizenship. Also recognized will be former Scouts who now serve in the U.S. military.

Supporting each boy in the Scouting program costs $225 a year, said Vince Miller, director of the Antelope Valley District of the Boy Scouts of America Noun 1. Boy Scouts of America - a corporation that operates through a national council that charters local councils all over the United States; the purpose is character building and citizenship training . Ten percent of the money raised at the dinner will pay for summer camp for local boys who otherwise could not afford it.
