SCOTTS WINS TWO MUNICIPAL YARD WASTE COMPOSTING CONTRACTS
MARYSVILLE, Ohio, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Scotts Company (NADAQ: SCTT) announced today that it has recently been selected to provide yard waste composting services for two municipalities, Greensboro, N.C., and Spokane, Wash. The company is currently negotiating final contracts with the cities and expects the composting sites to be operational during the fourth quarter of fiscal 1992. The contracts are expected to generate in excess of $1.25 million in annual revenue.
The award of the these contracts fits with the company's long term strategy to take advantage of its composting expertise and the increasing concern about landfill capacity by developing a program to compost yard waste.
"Scotts' traditional business is in supplying quality products for the lawn and garden market. Converting yard and garden organic waste to valuable raw materials via composting is clearly environmentally preferred to land disposal. Scotts' unique strengths, especially in manufacturing and marketing organic products, such as potting soils, planting mixes, and mulches, positions the company perfectly to participate in the growing market for composting services to municipalities," said company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tadd C. Seitz. "The company has organized a business group to pursue composting services and has a number of bids pending at locations across the nation," added Seitz.
Scotts offers "turn key" composting services, including design, construction, and operations of the facility according to strict environmental guidelines. Scotts will substitute the resulting compost for raw materials in Hyponex and other company products. Scotts' is the only national distributor of a branded organic product line.
With sales of $388 million in fiscal year 1991, Scotts is the country's leading producer and marketer of consumer do-it-yourself lawn care and professional golf course turf care products. The company's Turf Builder products are the nations' most popular lawn care fertilizers and fertilizer/control combinations. The company's Hyponex products are the nation's leading line of organic products, including top soils, potting soils, composted manurers and bark mulches.
