SCORPION RACKETS DELIVER : CAMARILLO BEATS WARRIORS 12-6 AMID CHILLY CLIMATE.Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer The weather Tuesday in Camarillo was about as chilly as the strained relations between the Westlake and Camarillo high school girls' tennis teams. But for one day, at least, the two clubs managed to coexist on the same court in time for the Scorpions to beat the Warriors 12-6. In doing so, Camarillo all but assured itself the Marmonte League championship with two matches left to play. ``I'm definitely happy with the way we played,'' said Camarillo coach Frances Giffin. ``We came to play today.'' The two schools played a heated match Oct. 3 in which players exchanged words with one another and there were accusations of unsportsmanlike conduct and possible cheating. Westlake coach Connie Flanderka was so incensed by the incidents during the Warriors' loss that she suggested that United States Tennis Association officials were needed to referee Tuesday's match even though high school level tennis matches are overseen by the players themselves. Giffin did not agree with Flanderka, and since the rematch was at Camarillo, it was her call. In the end, the girls officiated their own matches without incident. ``The way I saw it, by asking USTA officials to come out here we're not saying much about ourselves as coaches,'' Giffin said. ``It's our responsibility as coaches to make sure the girls are under control and if we can't do that we simply aren't doing our job.'' Flanderka agreed, to a point. ``I felt like the match was conducted in an orderly manner,'' she said. ``Sportsmanship is a big thing with me and with our school. Today I thought things went well.'' Unfortunately for Westlake, things didn't go quite as well in terms of the results. The Scorpions won every match in doubles play and singles star Darian Chappell was victorious in all three of her matches. One of her wins came against Erin Erin (ĕr`ĭn, ēr`–), ancient and poetic name of Ireland. Smith to end Smith's 77-set, league-winning streak dating back to last year. Smith had defeated Chappell in the Oct. 3 match. ``I wasn't really thinking much about her streak I just wanted to play my game and stay aggressive,'' said Chappell, who will likely attend either Rice, UC Irvine and Iowa next year. ``The key for me is to stay aggressive.'' She did that all match Tuesday, dispatching Westlake's terrific singles trio of Smith, her sister Katy and No. 1 Helena Horak with relative ease. ``She played extremely well,'' said Giffin. In addition to the outstanding play of Chappell, Camarillo received another boost from its excellent doubles teams, which won all of its sets. On the year, the Scorpions are 99-0 in doubles play led by Aime Hull and Melissa Feld, Brynne Chappell and Bettina Rettenmaier and Allison Gottlieb and Erin Jones. ``Our doubles teams have been awesome all year,'' said Chappell.
