SCORCHED PARKS.The following parks and parkland properties were impacted by the Calabasas Fire: Malibu Creek State Park. Some 1,400 of the park's 8,000 acres were scorched - near the park's entrance at Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland Highway on Monday, and along the section of the Backbone Trail known as the Mesa Peak Trail on Tuesday. A native-plant nursery and portable toilet were destroyed; the Braille Trail received minor damage. The park is expected to be reopened Monday. Tapia Subunit of Malibu Creek State Park. Extensive damage to north side of 94-acre park. The mile-long Tapia Spur Trail, a connector footpath between the two parks, was badly burned. Pending damage assessment and repairs to a downed power line, the subunit should reopen Friday. Malibu Creek. While there are no official trails, state rangers offer hikes north of Malibu Lagoon State Beach to the mouth of the creek, an area that was badly burned. Malibu Bluffs Community Park. Extensive damage. Used as a fire staging area. Already reopened. Solstice Canyon Park. Fire consumed most of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy property, though all structures were saved, including the Keller House, the visitor's center and the conservancy's former headquarters. The park will be closed until further notice. Corral and Escondido canyons. Flames ripped through conservancy-operated properties in both canyons. Note: Santa Ana winds are predicted for Saturday, which could stir up hot spots and extend closures at all parklands.
