SCIENTIFIC-ATLANTA APPOINTS GROUP COUNSEL

 ATLANTA, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific-Atlanta (NYSE: SFA) announced today the appointment of Norma Bergman and Russell Case as Group Counsel effective immediately.
 Bergman will serve as counsel for the company's Instrumentation Group, Case will be counsel for the Broadband Communications Group. Both attorneys will report to Scientific-Atlanta's General Counsel, William E. Eason, Jr.
 The company also announced the appointment of Chris Wagner as Group Counsel for the Network Systems Group. Wagner is currently a member of the company's legal department specializing in international transactions.
 Bergman had been General Counsel for the Academy Life Insurance Company in Atlanta. She previously had been on the Scientific-Atlanta legal staff for four years. Bergman is a 1976 graduate of Emory Law School where she was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Emory Law Journal. From 1987 to 1990 she was chairman of the DeKalb County Board of Education.
 Prior to joining Scientific-Atlanta, Case was with the Atlanta law firm of Kilpatrick and Cody principally engaged in mergers and acquisitions, securities, joint ventures and general corporate law. Case has focused on tender offers and auctions for public companies, joint ventures between U.S. and foreign manufacturers and public and private securities offerings. Case graduated from Cornell Law School in 1986 with a concentration in business law.
 Wagner joined Scientific-Atlanta in 1988 after practicing for eight years with the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington and Atlanta. He is a 1980 graduate of Capital University Law School where he was Editor-in-Chief of the school's Law Review. In addition, Wagner has an advanced law degree (LL. M.) in International and Comparative Law from the Georgetown University Law Center. For the last five years, Wagner has been Adjunct Professor of International Business Law at the Georgia State College of Law. In April of this year, he served as the principal company lawyer in establishing Scientific-Atlanta of Shanghai Ltd., a manufacturing joint venture in China to produce cable television equipment primarily for the Chinese market.
 In making the announcement, Eason said: "As Scientific-Atlanta expands as a major participant in the rapidly growing telecommunications industry, our business units will require a full range of sophisticated legal services. These appointments are a significant step toward our commitment to build a premiere legal department at Scientific-Atlanta to meet those requirements."
