SCHOOLGIRL MOWN DOWN BY BIKE NUT; Speeding rider killed cousin's daughter, 13.
MOTORCYCLIST Shaun Bromham mowed down and killed a teenager - and then discovered she was a relative.
Bromham, 31, roared through a residential area at 60mph on a 600cc motorbike he had had for just four days.
And when he saw a group of girls in the road he just shouted at them to get out of the way.
Bromham ploughed into Lauren Cranny, 13, and her pal Amanda Williams, 14.
Both girls were thrown into the air and landed on the road.
The gruesome crash scene shocked witnesses and left a paramedic with 19 years experience in need of counselling.
Lauren, the daughter of Bromham's cousin Mark Tancock, died soon after reaching hospital.
Amanda suffered a broken pelvis, spine and leg, and is still receiving treatment.
David Harris, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court that police believe Bromham - whose uncle was a stunt rider - was travelling at 50mph when he hit the girls.
Mr Harris said Bromham had never taken a motorcycle driving test and was not insured.
Police said they could not find any signs that Bromham had braked firmly.
"If he had reacted by braking as he saw the girls, or had kept to the speed limit, the accident could have been avoided," said Mr Harris.
Bromham, who had previous convictions for taking cars, driving while banned and without insurance, twice lied to police.
He insisted he had a licence and told them he had taken a test. Eventually he confessed that he was lying.
Bromham, from Skewen, near Swansea, admitted causing death by dangerous driving, and driving without insurance or a licence.
He was jailed for four years and banned from driving for seven years.
His barrister, Ian Wright, said he wanted to apologise to Lauren's family for the tragedy.
After the case, Lauren's mum Tanya Tancock said the sentence was nowhere near long enough.
"He will be out in two years," she said.
"No sentence would replace the sentence that we are serving.
"Lauren was a happy, lively, popular young lady."
