The Palmdale School District was first formed in 1888. Approximately 28,000 students are enrolled in the Palmdale School District.
 will spend $30,000 to upgrade a telephone voice-mail system that has lost or delayed phone messages, to the pique of parents and other callers.

The existing system lost or garbled some callers' messages, officials said. Some messages would pop up on their recipients' phones two or three days after they were placed.

 ignoring it, and that's not true,'' said Superintendent Nancy Smith. ``Sometimes it just doesn't show up or what we get is so garbled and we can't understand what's being said.''

The phone will not ring during class, but teachers can check their voice mail during breaks or after classes.

The new system will be provided by the same company, Active Voice, Smith said.

``I think it's real important so that we make sure, No. 1, we get all messages, because you don't want people leaving messages and you don't get them for a couple or three days, or they're so garbled you can't understand them,'' Smith said. ``And I think having the potential of putting all our schools on makes for communication between the parent and the teacher.''
