The $1.8 million project will be funded by the state, the school district and the city of Lancaster The City of Lancaster (2002 population: 133,914) is a local government district with city status in Lancashire, England. Approximately $760,000 will come from the state, more than $600,000 from the district and $365,000 will come from the city.

Once completed, the gymnasium will be used by city sports leagues, as is already done at the New Vista Middle School gymnasium.

``It's greatly important,'' said Lancaster Parks and Recreation sports coordinator Jeff Campbell Jeff Campbell (Born August 25, 1979) is a New Zealand soccer player who has represented his country at U20, U23 and senior levels.

. ``The main thing that we lack here as the city for our sports program is basketball space.''

McNabb said the Park View center will contain a room for dance classes or other activities.

McNabb said that the district chose Park View as the site for the recreation center because Piute Middle School will get a new gymnasium when the school moves to a new campus at 20th Street East and Kettering Avenue.

The new Amargosa Creek Middle School, for which a construction contract was awarded last week, also will have a state-of-the-art gymnasium.

``Another gym, full-size court, that we access to play our programs is absolutely great,'' Campbell said. ``Maybe we can expand our programs. I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will be a great system.''
