 SCHLUMBERGER CAD/CAM BECOMES APPLICON
 ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Schlumberger CAD/CAM

announced today that it has changed its name to "Applicon." This move is another step in the company's plan to become a major force in the design automation industry.
Brad Morley, president, said: "Over the last few years, we've assembled a strong management team with extensive experience in CAD/CAM, we've implemented an aggressive strategic product plan, and we've increased the division's research and development budget by 40 percent. Several experts from the Schlumberger Research Laboratory have also been working to bring innovations to the division's product line."
Applicon is currently developing the most significant software release since the introduction of its Bravo product line in 1982, which was named product of the year by Fortune Magazine. This release, scheduled for introduction in the fall, includes several technological innovations including a state-of-the-art Motif-based user interface, a parametric sketching tool employing a patented constraint solver, and one of the industry's first CAM packages to handle milling, drilling, and turning in a single operation.
Applicon, headquartered in Ann Arbor, employs 650 people worldwide. Its design automation software is used by companies in virtually every industry to shorten their product cycles and improve their productivity from design through manufacturing.
Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB) is a $6 billion multinational corporation, with more than 53,000 employees in 75 countries on every continent. The company's global research and development network, which includes facilities in North America, Europe and Asia, had a budget of more than $400 million in 1991.
