The younger sister of Northwestern freshman golfer Hana Kim - who won the inaugural WSCGA WSCGA Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association  title last year as a senior at Brentwood - was the only player to break par on a day just two others shot as low as par-72.

``I could have played better, but the greens were a little hard for me,'' said Kim, who reached the title match of the Girls' U.S. Junior Amateur Championship last summer and led Harvard-Westlake (247) to a third-place tie Tuesday behind team winner Torrey Pines Torrey Pines can refer to:

 (233) and runner-up Aliso Niguel (245).

``I couldn't get the speed right,'' Kim said of her troubles on the greens. ``I was missing all my birdie putts and they weren't very long.''

Cindy Baker, president of the WSCGA, thought Kim and others just ran into a difficult course.

``The course played tougher than last year,'' Baker said. ``But I think the scores reflected some really fine golf.''

Kim, who posted the only sub-par round since this event was switched to an all-girls format (boys and girls boys and girls

Emma Stachowicz (83), Eunice Lee (93) and Kathryne Cooper (93) completed the team scoring for Harvard-Westlake, which qualified for the four-section WSCGA event by placing second in the Southern Section team final.

Kim will join her sister on scholarship at Northwestern next year, but Harvard-Westlake coaches Koval Kochar and Darlene Bible will have Stachowicz, Lee and Cooper back, when the three-time defending Mission League-champion Wolverines bid for a fourth straight berth in the Southern California championship.

``It's unbelievable how it's grown,'' Bible said of girls' golf, which first became a Southern Section sport in 1998. ``The ability has improved so much that I can't believe it. Colleges are going to have no trouble finding good players. These girls are very fortunate to be right where they need to be.''
