SCE Offers Free Home Energy Audits to Help Reduce Summer Electric Bills.
With hot weather arriving early in the southland, Southern California Edison (SCE) is offering its customers an easy way to reduce summer electric bills -- a free home energy audit.
The audits are part of SCE's energy conservation awareness campaign, launched last month to help consumers reduce electricity consumption during extremely hot days. The campaign is in response to tight summer electric power reserves recently predicted by the California Independent System Operator (Cal-ISO), the agency responsible for managing the state's electric power grid and securing power supplies.
"A home energy audit can show you where and how you can conserve while still enjoying the convenience and comfort electricity provides," said John Nall, SCE manager of energy-efficiency programs.
Trained energy auditors visit customer homes at no cost, surveying major appliances, air conditioning and pool equipment, insulation, weather stripping, and heating and hot-water systems. Or, if customers prefer, energy auditors can assist by phone. A written report of SCE's energy-efficiency recommendations is provided after the audit, which takes approximately 30 minutes. SCE customers can call (800) 278-8585 Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., to set an appointment.
In addition, SCE provides a written do-it-yourself home energy survey and other energy-efficiency information at its Web site www.sce.com.
An Edison International company, Southern California Edison is one of the nation's largest electric utilities, serving more than 11 million people in a 50,000-square-mile area within central, coastal and Southern California.
