SCANNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AWARDED MAJOR CONTRACT BY FRY'S FOOD
STORES OF ARIZONA FOR POS PLUS (TM) SCALE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
CANOGA PARK, Calif., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Scanning Management Systems ("SCANNING"), today announced that Fry's Food Stores Inc., of Arizona, has awarded the company a contract to rollout and install their innovative POS PLUS (TM) Scale Management software.
The contract covering SCANNING Scale Management software and maintenance support, calls for installation of 16 stores within the Fry's chain by the end of 1991, with the balance of 29 stores during 1992. Initial installations will be at Fry's store in Gilbert, a Phoenix suburb, followed by a store located in Tucson, Ariz.
"Award of this important contract to SCANNING follows a beta test program during which several significant enhancements such as PLU batch maintenance, extra text batch creation, and the capability to archive extra text records and download them to a new database and scale, were developed for our scale product," said George Luntz, SCANNING chief operating officer. "It also affirms Fry's satisfaction with our company and product performance, and the spirit of partnership that developed between our people and Fry's personnel during the beta test phase of this program," he added.
SCANNING's market-leading Scale Management software program lets users maintain item and price files on all scales from all of the major manufacturers from a single port of the in-store processor. The Scale Management system can generally run on a store IBM 4680 controller or any Unix-based ISP such as an NCR Tower, so there is no additional PC to purchase. And the program can be tailored to accept the store's existing host-communicated files which saves the user the expense of developing redundant communications systems.
SCANNING is a software firm that for over 12 years has specialized in the development of in-store applications for use within supermarkets. SCANNING's point-of-sale software products and associated hardware are uniquely qualified to meet the demanding requirements of supermarket chains, wholesaler co-ops and independent retailers.
SCANNING is owned by Dataserv Inc., a BellSouth company, located in Eden Prairie, Minn. Dataserv Inc. is a diversified computer service company that provides computer equipment and services to a worldwide user network.
