Freshman guard Nick Young complained that players were blaming each other during the game instead of focusing on winning. Young was among the players who spoke during Friday's meeting.

``We sat down and tried to work it out,'' Young said. ``We got some stuff off our chest and got stuff into the open. I said, 'we need to be a team instead of blaming each other.'''

 said the problems weren't serious.

``Those things can get exaggerated,'' he said. ``There's nothing going on. Guys said a few things, and I settled it. When you lose like this, all problems seem to come out.

Young during one play against Washington, said things became more frustrating for him because the Seattle native is playing in front of his family this weekend.

``It's hard to stay positive, especially for me playing at home,'' Stewart said. ``Losing's not fun.''

Young said he felt positive heading into today's game at Washington State.

``I think we can turn things around now,'' he said. ``I struggled the last time we played Washington State, but I wasn't used to their slowdown game. Now we know what they do.''

. Washington shot a season-high 60 percent against the Trojans, and opponents are shooting 47 percent this season, which places USC last in field-goal defense.

``We just can't get stops down the stretch,'' Saia said. ``It's not one person, it's the whole team.''

--Keep shooting: Saia said he intended to use point guard Dwayne Shackleford again today, that he wasn't turned off by the fact Shackleford missed his first six shots before hitting two 3-pointers at the end of the game.

``He's been rusty,'' Saia said. ``It wasn't fair to him.''

Shackleford has played in just eight games this season because of injuries.

--Senior salute: Of USC's six struggling seniors, Saia cited forward Jeff McMillan as someone who has played well recently. McMillan has averaged 7.8 points and 7.0 rebounds in Pac-10 games.

``Jeff's doing the best he can,'' Saia said. ``We get one guy going, and then we don't get another guy. That's been the problem.''

Forward Rory O'Neil has had a quiet season. He scored five points against Washington and is averaging just 6.3 points in conference games. O'Neil hasn't scored in double figures since Jan. 2 against Oregon State.

--No Craven: Akthough he's on the trip, guard Errick Craven will not play. Craven has a bone bruise in his ankle and will be reevaluated next week.
