USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  linebacker Chris Prosser should know by the end of the week if he will end his career, after being bothered over the number of concussions he suffered the past two years.

Prosser, who has been medically cleared by USC doctors, is awaiting test results after seeking other opinions.

``I'm definitely tired of having concussions,'' Prosser said. ``I've had too many, and doctors are running tests. I'm trying to get some feedback.''

Prosser was cleared after extensive tests last month but is concerned about the possible effects of returning to football.

``He's just not feeling right and hasn't felt like himself,'' USC coach Pete Carroll Peter C. Carroll (born September 15, 1951, in San Francisco, California) is the current head coach of the University of Southern California Trojans football team, having held that position since 2001.  said.

Prosser discussed taking a medical redshirt Tuesday, which effectively would end his career, but will wait until he receives the test results to make a final decision.

``Nothing is really stable,'' Prosser said. ``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

 anything.''

Prosser missed four games last year after suffering a concussion. He believed he received another concussion in training camp last month, although tests did not conclusively reveal the injury. However, Prosser said he has experienced headaches since that injury and has not practiced for the past two weeks.

He did not play in USC's first two games.

--Pete's pitch: Carroll said Tuesday that quarterback Carson Palmer Carson Palmer (born December 27, 1979 in Fresno, California), is an American football quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League. He attended the University of Southern California, where he won the Heisman Trophy Award in 2002 in his senior season.  should be a candidate for the Heisman Trophy Heisman Trophy

.

``I don't think there's any doubt,'' Carroll said. ``In my mind, he is a fantastic performer, and his numbers have proven that he is worthy. He is flying out of the gate at 72 percent completion rate and leading his team to two strong wins. He's a fifth-year senior and earned his opportunity.

``I'm thrilled about it, and I'll talk to anybody about it. I don't think playing that up would affect Carson.''

Informed of Carroll's comments, Palmer shied away from any Heisman talk.

``I don't know about that,'' he said. ``I just want to keep my focus on the team and winning games.''

--Wilson to start? Offensive guard Zach Wilson (sprained foot) appears likely to start at right guard this week now that he is healthy. Junior Eric Torres started the Colorado game but could be supplanted by Wilson, who missed a month after hurting his foot.

``Zach didn't lose his job because he got hurt,'' Carroll said.

--Kicking competition: Sophomore kicker Ryan Killeen Ryan Killeen (born July 11, 1983) is an american football placekicker for the National Football League Seattle Seahawks' NFL Europe affiliate Amsterdam Admirals. Professional career  is getting an opportunity this week to challenge starter David Davis David Davis, the name of several people, may refer to:
  • David Davis (Australian politician) (born 1962), Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Council
  • David Davis (British politician) (born 1948), Conservative MP in British Parliament and Conservative leadership
for the starting position. Davis had two kicks blocked and missed an extra point against Colorado.

During Tuesday's practice, Killeen shared time kicking field goals with Davis.

``(Killeen) deserves a chance to compete for the job,'' Carroll said.

--Injury update: Cornerback Ronald Nunn stopped practicing, bothered by his broken thumb. Cornerback Marcell Allmond Marcell Allmond is an American football cornerback. Professional career
Allmond played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005. He was on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in 2004.
fractured his wrist against Colorado but is OK. Linebacker Melvin Simmons did not practice to rest his leg, which became infected last week. He is expected to return today.

--Cautious return: Tailback Justin Fargas Justin Fargas (born January 25, 1980 in Encino, California) is a football player in the NFL. Professional career
He was drafted in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. As of 2006, he is the Raiders' second-string running back.
(hamstring) did not participate in practice because Carroll is bringing him back slowly. Fargas is expected to play his first full game against Kansas State.

``I want to make sure he's OK,'' Carroll said.

, defensive tackle Al Cowlings and nose guard Willard ``Bubba'' Scott.

Gunn, Cowlings and Weaver were All-Americans. The statue is 10 feet long and 8 feet high, including its base.

--They're No. 1: USC's defense is ranked first in the nation in total defense, allowing 171 yards per game. The Trojans are tied for first in pass defense, allowing 82.5 yards per contest.

USC never has finished a season ranked first in total defense.
