John Fox's first official practice to claim the USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  starting quarterback position could have gone a little better Tuesday.

``It was horrible. Absolutely horrible,'' Fox said. ``The worst (practice) in my entire life.''

After getting his first considerable playing time in two years in last Saturday's loss to Cal, Fox came out overexcited Tuesday.

``I'm just too hyper right now,'' Fox said. ``I can't even feel my toes. I feel like a little kid. Especially today. I feel a lot of life today.''

Fox's effort did not hurt his standing with USC coach Paul Hackett, however.

``I think it's a psychological reaction to `I'm getting more reps and I have to be perfect,' '' Hackett said. ``He needs a little more time. I was pleased with some things and not pleased with some things.''

Hackett said he will wait until the end of the week to make a decision, although Fox is expected to start over incumbent Mike Van Raaphorst.

``We've got to massage the game plan,'' Hackett said. ``We have to be careful what to ask and what to expect of him.''

Fox appeared to get more repetitions than Van Raaphorst on Tuesday, and Hackett said he needed more time to evaluate the situation, although he could also be trying to keep Arizona State off-balance.

``That's why I can't make a decision. Let's see Let's See was a Canadian television series broadcast on CBC Television between September 6, 1952 to July 4, 1953. The segment, which had a running time of 15 minutes, was a puppet show with a character named Uncle Chichimus (voice of John Conway), which presented each  it unfold,'' Hackett said. ``Whatever it takes between the two to get a win we'll do.''

Fox admitted that even though the Trojans lost to Cal, he was re-energized by his quarterback appearance.

``I feel rejuvenated re·ju·ve·nate

Young's a candidate: USC defensive coordinator A defensive coordinator typically refers to a coach on a football team in the National Football League or college football who is in charge of the defense. ``I'd love to have it, I'm not downplaying it,'' Young said.

``He looked better,'' Hackett said. ``But I thought he was playing last Saturday.''

Roberts update: Offensive tackle Trevor Roberts will not practice most of the week because of a broken bone in his wrist, but will probably play. Offensive guard Faasea Mailo's status remains in question because of a leg bruise.
