SBS Technologies Announces a New Product Line of Conduction Cooled DSP-based I/O Modules.ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- SBS Technologies SBS Technologies, Inc., (Nasdaq: SBSE) founded in 1986, designed and built open architecture embedded computer products that enable original equipment manufacturers to serve the commercial, communication and government markets. SBS was headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico. , Inc. (Nasdaq:SBSE SBSE Society of Building Science Educators ): New Boards Provide DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive Performance, FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market. Reconfigurability, PMC (1) See Portable Media Center. (2) (PCI Mezzanine Card) A PCI-based mezzanine card that is widely adapted to VMEbus, CompactPCI and PCI cards. Site Expansion in 3U CompactPCI and 6U VME (Virtual Machine Environment) An operating system from Fujitsu Services (formerly ICL) that runs on its Series 39 mainframes. Introduced in 1975, VME is a comprehensive product that provides a variety of utilities for datacenter operations. Form Factors --Altera FPGA based I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output. I/O - Input/Output Controller --TI TMS TMS Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (alternative medicine for depression) TMS Test Match Special (sports - cricket) TMS Texas Motor Speedway TMS Transportation Management System TMS Toyota Motor Sales 5402 DSP-based signal processing See DSP. --Conduction cooled -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C --Built-In-Test Capability --VxWorks(R), Integrity(R) and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) support Today, SBS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, introduced a new line of conduction cooled DSP-based I/O Interface See port and expansion slot. boards for military and defense applications. This new release consists of seven I/O boards: Three in the 6U VME DIO DIO Diode DIO Digital Input/Output DIO Defence Intelligence Organisation (Australia) DIO Designated Institutional Official DIO Days Inventory Outstanding DIO Data Input-Output DIO Defence Industries Organisation 1/2/3-VME-CC line and four in the 3U cPCI DIO1/2/3-cPCI-CC line. "As SBS See Small Business Server. expands its integrated system solutions, we found that customer-specific input and output requirements represented the greatest variability in offering off-the-shelf solutions. Our design engineering teams leveraged their experiences using DSP and FPGA-based computing platforms into product designs that provide reconfigurability and reuse from application to application, regardless of the bus architecture or board form factor. This design approach offers our customers an entire portfolio of products that will meet the performance requirements of the end use application and operate in severe temperature, shock, and vibration environments," said Frank Willis, VP Business Development for SBS Technologies. These DSP-based I/O interface boards are based on Texas Instruments' TMS5402 DSP and Altera's 1K ACEX ACEX Arctic Coring Expedition ACEX Asheron's Call Explorer FPGA devices. The cPCI DSP-based I/O interface boards feature a PCI Mezzanine Card (hardware) PCI Mezzanine Card - (PMC) A family of low profile mezzanine cards for VMEbus, Futurebus+, desktop computers and other computer systems with logical and electrical layers based on the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) specification. PMC is defined in IEEE P1386. (PMC) Interface slot for added versatility. All of these boards are based on SBS core designs and have varying I/O capabilities that can be added to or modified from an extensive array of previously designed and verified I/O circuits. These cPCI and VME conduction cooled boards can handle a wide variety of signals and perform on-the-fly signal processing, making them ideal for mission computers and other applications with harsh environmental demands. DSP program code and FPGA configuration data can be downloaded and stored in Flash memory via the host processor, allowing the board to combine the functionality of several specialty boards while saving precious backplane slots for other uses. Because these board designs are based upon a programmable architecture, SBS can provide custom features such as Engineering Unit (EU) conversion and precise timing of signals and sample rates.
