The RMAT application provides geographic information systems (GIS) capability for Army bases to support training and exercise missions, maintain real estate property inventory on-line and provide access to mapping and geographic information of Army installations. RMAT also demonstrates how commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology meets information systems upgrade requirements in keeping with DoD efforts to increase operating efficiencies and reduce maintenance costs.

Following installation and validation at Fort Knox and Fort Drum, the RMAT application will be available to be fielded to other sites throughout the country. "We are beginning to gather the fruits of our labor from the hard work of past years," said Roxanne Austin, Army Project Manager for Sustaining Base Automation. "RMAT is one of several vitally needed applications coming on line that are already making a difference in cost-savings and efficiencies throughout the Army."

Benefits from RMAT are expected to be widespread. For example, RMAT automates base-wide planning, design and maintenance functions , many of which have been done manually.

Functions the application will support include:

-- Planning - support for the Military Construction Army Program -- Real Estate - maintenance of land acquisition records and building

disposal -- Architecture and engineering - project management and archiving -- Design - map maintenance and construction design -- Management Systems - facility management -- Buildings, Grounds and Utilities - utility and map research, as well
