SBC Communications Announces Multimillion Dollar Contract to Provide Voice and Data Services to the Golden 1 Credit Union; New Contract Expands Relationship to Include Optical and Data Networking Services.

: SBC) today announced a new voice and data networking services contract with Sacramento, Calif.-based The Golden 1 Credit Union, the fourth-largest credit union in the United States.

Under terms of the five-year contract, SBC companies will provide The Golden 1 Credit Union with SBC PremierSERV(SM) Frame Relay service for the credit union's 270 ATM locations and 69 branch locations throughout the U.S. In addition, a Synchronous Optical Network (networking) Synchronous Optical NETwork - (SONET) A broadband networking standard based on point-to-point optical fibre networks. SONET will provide a high-bandwidth "pipe" to support ATM-based services.  (SONET) OC-48 ring will be deployed to deliver improved network redundancy and disaster recovery capabilities. SBC companies also will provide local and long distance voice services for the credit union.

Together, these services will help to maximize network reliability, which is critical for the high-bandwidth applications common in the financial industry, such as online loan processing.
