The highest average loan size was awarded by Gateway Business Bank at $876,160. Gateway Business Bank awarded five loans in 2004, the largest at $4,380,800.

In its fiscal year 2005, the Small Business Administration reported that it secured some 97,891 loans through its two main programs, a record amount of volume for the fifth consecutive year.

The fiscal 2005 figure is more than double the number of loans made in 2000, the agency said.

The SBA reported that minorities received $5.8 billion in financing, a 26 percent increase over the previous year for the group.

Minorities accounted for 31 percent of the total dollars loaned by the SBA in 2005.

Women received $3.3 billion in SBA financing, representing 17 percent of the total dollars the SBA financed in 2005. Lending to women was up 27 percent over the previous year.

BANK of America is the largest lender of Small Business Agency loans in the greater San Fernando Valley once again, with 216 loans awarded during the 2004 fiscal year. The total amount of SBA loans the bank awarded equaled $7.9 million, with an average loan size of $36,747.

The number and value of loans awarded was down somewhat from last year, when the bank awarded 239 SBA loans in the greater San Fernando Valley, with a total value of $8.6 million.

Bank of America, which is also the top SBA lender nationwide in terms of the number of loans awarded, provides SBA loans to small but established businesses. The loans are government-guaranteed and often have longer repayment Repayment

greater San Fernando Valley during the fiscal year ending Sept. 30,
2004.

Banks were ranked by the number of SBA loans awarded in the greater San
Fernando Valley. If two banks were tied, they were further ranked by
the total value of SBA loans awarded. Loan information was provided by
the U.S. Small Business Administration. Additional information was
provided by the banks themselves.
