As a group, they wrote 4,181 loans, down 662, or 13.7 percent, from the like period a year earlier. Dollar volume was up 2.5 percent, to $881.5 million. THE PACESETTER BANK OF AMERICA
Bank of America (NYSE: BAC TYO: 8648 ) is the largest commercial bank in the United States in terms of deposits, and the largest company of its kind in the world. THE Charlotte, N.C.-based financial institution continues to lead the pack of Small Business Administration loan underwriters by awarding more loans than any other lender LENDER, contracts. Bank of America made 1,351 loans locally for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, down 685 from the year earlier. Aggregate volume fell $22 million, to $49.4 million, while average loan size increased 4.3 percent, to $36,562. The SBA did not allow any loans to be made for two months early in the year due to a lack of federal funding. "Those couple of months impacted everybody's business," said Rick Benito, a Bank of America senior vice president. Benito also noted that a change in the bank's lending structure resulted in some of the loans being made by local branches instead of the business banking group. "Los Angeles is by far the most dynamic region across the country," said Benito, citing an increase in loans to retail businesses, manufacturers, wholesalers, doctors, attorneys, consultants, landscape architects and engineering firms. Benito expects the SBA to increase fees in the coming year. "The SBA Express Program has a desire to be a self-funded program," he said. Nevertheless, he does not expect the increases to have a significant change on the number of loans granted.
