THE TRENDS [GRAPHIC OMITTED] THE PACESETTER BANK of America doubled the number of Small Business Administration loans it made in the year ended Sept. 30, widening its lead as the No. 1 SBA lender LENDER, contracts. The Charlotte, N.C.-based bank made 1,469 loans with an aggregate value of $54.9 million. The number of loans doubled from the year-earlier, but the increase in dollar volume did not keep pace. The average loan size dropped to $37,329 in fiscal 2003 from $45,374 the year previous. Rick Benito, who oversees the bank's Los Angeles District, attributed the increase in loan activity to more SBA loan training. "In 2002 we had a lot of people come up to speed in the SBA products," said Benito. "Just by (each person) doing one more loan, we doubled our performance."
