SAUGUS CLAIMS NIKE INVITE WITH HELP FROM MURAKAMI.


The Saugus High girls' cross country team continued its impressive season Saturday by winning the Nike/Danner Invitational in Troutdale, Ore., posting a team time of 83 minutes, 23 seconds to defeat West Valley (84:06) of Fairbanks, Alaska Fairbanks (IPA: /ˈfɛərbæŋks/) is a Home Rule City in Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, United States. .

Ranked second in the Nike Team Nationals NTN emblem
Nike Team Nationals (NTN) is an invitational cross country meet that serves as the unofficial team national championship of United States high school cross country. It was designed to heighten competition between high school cross country teams nationwide.
 California Region, the Centurions were led by UCLA-bound senior Shannon Murakami, who ran 17:44 on the three-mile layout at Blue Lake Park to win the solo race by 14 seconds.

Amber Murakami (10th, 18:29), Brianna Jauregui (16th, 18:44), Katie Dunn (18th, 18:46) and Tocca Kahovec (45th, 19:38) were the remaining scorers for Saugus. West Valley is ranked No. 1 in the NTN NTN Narrative Television Network

The Centurions' other victories this season include the Seaside Invitational in Ventura and the Woodbridge Invitational in Irvine.
