Bales was a member of the American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. He married Phyllis Coyle on Dec. 27, 1950, and they moved to Van Nuys in 1956. She died in 2003. Bales is survived by his son, Glenn; brothers Archie, Ray and Stan; a sister, Ida Mae; and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Forest Lawn is the name of a number of different places:
