Barnes threw for eight touchdowns and 503 yards, both school records, as the Bears beat Arizona 56-55 in four overtimes in the longest major college game in history. Keith Smith(1952-2006) was a former English rugby player; he excelled in playing centre. He first played with Yorkshire Colts rugby then advanced to Roundhay.

Oklahoma

The Sooners, once the rulers of college football, hit a low point: They were routed by Nebraska 73-21, the biggest loss margin and most points allowed in Oklahoma's long history. The 52-point margin surpassed the Sooners' 47-point loss to Oklahoma A&M in 1945, and the 73 points broke the old mark of 59 set by Kansas State in 1969.
