SATURDAY'S HIGHLIGHTS : HERO PEYTON MANNING TENNESSEE.

The Volunteers' junior quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate threw for 371 yards and two touchdowns in a 29-17 victory over Georgia. But it was the way he took over the game in the second half that left fans in Athens, Ga. shaking their heads. Manning scrambled away from a heavy rush and, throwing against his body, found Joey Kent wide open in the end zone for a 31-yard touchdown that gave the Volunteers a 22-3 advantage midway through the third period.

GOAT

Matt Johner, Kansas

The Jayhawks quarterback threw two interceptions deep in his own territory and was stopped on a goal-line stand in the second half of a 30-17 loss to Texas Tech. Kansas hadn't turned the ball over in 15 quarters and averaged 45.1 points coming into the game. But the streak and the scoring ended when Dane Johnson tipped Johner's pass and Tony Darden intercepted the ball at the Kansas 18 and later scored. The Red Raiders came back with another big defensive play 50 seconds later when Johner threw another interception at the Kansas 23. Texas Tech scored four plays later.
