SATER to co-sponsor coatings workshop in Spanish at ICE.In conjunction with the ICE 2006 Preshow Short Courses, FSCT FSCT Federation of Societies for Coating Technology FSCT Fire Support Control Terminal and the Sociedad Argentina de Tecnologos en Recubrimientos (SATER) will present two coatings workshops for Spanish-speaking attendees. Both workshops will be given on Tuesday, October 31 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded . One registration fee covers both workshops. Course content will be presented entirely in Spanish; no simultaneous translation will be provided. The workshops include: Workshop 1: Emulsion emulsion: see colloid. emulsion Mixture of two or more liquids in which one is dispersed in the other as microscopic or ultramicroscopic droplets (see colloid). Emulsions are stabilized by agents (emulsifiers) that (e.g. Polymers This two-part workshop focuses on adhesion adhesion /ad·he·sion/ (ad-he´zhun) 1. the property of remaining in close proximity. 2. the stable joining of parts to one another, which may occur abnormally. 3. technology for waterborne industrial coatings An industrial coating is a paint or coating defined by its protective, rather than its aesthetic properties, although it can provide both. The most common use of industrial coatings is for corrosion control of steel or concrete. . Applications to be discussed include kitchen cabinets, doors, and coatings for plastics. * Part 1 of the workshop will cover the fundamentals of the adhesion theory. Part 2 of this workshop will focus on the Percolation Theory In mathematics, percolation theory describes the behavior of connected clusters in a random graph. The applications of percolation theory to materials science and other domains are discussed in the article percolation. as applied to the synthesis of binders for paints. Practical examples will be provided. Workshop 2: Good Painting Practices for Large Metallic Structures This workshop covers the best techniques for applying industrial paints to large metallic structures. Who Should Attend The workshops provide technical information for paint manufacturers, industry suppliers, and users of coatings and paint materials at all levels. They are specifically recommended for formulators, paint users, chemists, engineers, and quality control personnel. What You Will Learn * Gain an overall understanding of the fundamentals of the adhesion theory for waterborne industrial coatings. * Become familiar with the new requirements in terms of adhesion on difficult substrates. * Obtain the latest technical information and receive application technology guidelines guidelines, n.pl a set of standards, criteria, or specifications to be used or followed in the performance of certain tasks. . Instructors Serving as instructors for the workshops are Hugo Tomas De Notta, Dow Chemical Company The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW TYO: 4850 ) is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Midland, Michigan. Overview The Dow Chemical Company is currently the second largest chemical manufacturer in the World (after BASF)[1]. , and Hugo Augusto Haas, Pulverlux SA. Registration Registration for the SATER Spanish workshops includes: * Full admittance Admittance The ratio of the current to the voltage in an alternating-current circuit. In terms of complex current I and voltage V, the admittance of a circuit is given by Eq. (1), and is related to the impedance of the circuit Z by Eq. (2). to both workshops * Course handouts * Full admittance to the ICE Expo Discounted advance registration prices are available through September 29, After September 29, the onsite prices become effective. REGISTRATION: Advance Registration: $345 Onsite Registration: $395 Register for the SATER Workshops online at the FSCT website at www.coatingstech.org. To register by mail or fax, complete the registration form on page 11 of this issue and send as instructed. All registrants will receive a confirmation statement once the registration is processed.
