eCommerce Participation and Differentiation

SAQQARA Systems, Inc., a proven leader in providing business-to-business eCommerce software and services, announced today the launch of its Cornerstone Program, a comprehensive solution to enable suppliers to manage and exchange content with trading partners and effectively solve one of the largest obstacles to rapid B2B eCommerce adoption. The new Cornerstone Program includes four unique components: Product Content Services, Product Content Syndication See syndication format. , Catalog catalog, descriptive list, on cards or in a book, of the contents of a library. Assurbanipal's library at Nineveh was cataloged on shelves of slate. The first known subject catalog was compiled by Callimachus at the Alexandrian Library in the 3d cent. Leading suppliers and marketmakers such as Honeywell and PurchasingCenter.com have partnered with SAQQARA to help solve the supplier product content integration problem by enabling the companies to participate in eMarketplaces.

With SAQQARA's Cornerstone Program, suppliers have their product content initially prepared for Web eCommerce using SAQQARA's Product Content Services. Once product content is cleansed cleanse

, it can be exchanged with SAQQARA's Product Content Syndication service, a hosted Web environment that automatically updates and transforms supplier managed product content to various trading partner formats and delivers specific content files to the partners in pre-approved formats.

Suppliers can also leverage the initial Product Content Service into full Catalog Hosting to help brand and differentiate products through a strong independent Web presence. SAQQARA's industrial strength ProductServer(TM) is a best of breed catalog application that enables suppliers to affordably manage, enrich and brand product content by providing images, attributes, full marketing descriptions, and links to additional content to provide buyers with a rich product selection and buying experience. Commerce Suite Hosting expands on SAQQARA's catalog application, providing a supplier with additional commerce and personalization Custom tailoring information to the individual. On the Web, personalization means returning a page that has been customized for the user, taking into consideration that person's habits and preferences.  functionality, enabling more direct interaction with buyers and eMarketplaces.

"The progression of B2B eCommerce has been drastically slowed because of the lack of supplier involvement," said Tim Minahan, research director of Aberdeen Group's e-Business practice. "In order to reach their true potential, e-Markets must provide access to accurate, detailed, and relevant product information -- without placing undue burdens on suppliers. SAQQARA addresses this challenge through a unique mix of Web-based tools to enable suppliers to develop and maintain control over their catalog content and services to ensure that this content is formatted and distributed to multiple marketplaces."

Problem in the Marketplace

Today, sellers are faced with hundreds of eMarketplaces, each with different required formats for product content data. As most suppliers cannot spend the time or money required to format catalog information, eMarketplaces are forced to find content in other ways. Traditionally, eMarketplaces have used third party content aggregators An organization that combines information such as news, sports scores, weather forecasts and reference materials from various sources and makes it available to its customers. See customer aggregator.  for this purpose. Content aggregators acquire supplier content, either through Web site scraping (1) Extracting data from output intended for the screen or printer rather than from original files or databases. For example, Web pages formatted in HTML are often scraped.  or catalog digitizing "Digitizer" redirects here. For the computer device, see Digitizing tablet. For the digitizer in Tablet PC's, see Tablet PC.

, re-purposing it into their own individual standards and reselling the data to eMarketplaces. The data collected in this manner is often inaccurate, incomplete, out of date and not descriptive, forcing net market makers to look for new and better solutions. SAQQARA provides suppliers the ability to proactively manage its most valuable asset in today's Internet economy--product content information.

"We are uniquely positioned to help suppliers as SAQQARA has traditionally created solutions for this side of the market," said Bob Payne, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of SAQQARA Systems, Inc. "SAQQARA's Cornerstone Program is a comprehensive solution that solves both the data transformation and exchange problem many suppliers are facing. By helping suppliers provide quality content information to eMarketplaces and eProcurement systems, not only will suppliers be able to accelerate their eCommerce activity but net market makers reap benefits as buyers will increase return visits and purchases with improved product data."

SAQQARA has developed a unique approach to building its customer base by partnering with net market makers, as they have an ongoing and direct relationship with suppliers. In support of that strategy PurchasingCenter.com and SAQQARA today announced a strategic alliance that will benefit both the suppliers and buyers in PurchasingCenter.com's marketplace (See separate release dated May 16, 2000).

Balancing the Marketplace

Today, eMarketplaces are buyer heavy, lacking broad seller-side participation. SAQQARA's Cornerstone Program, as a hosted solution, provides the infrastructure and applications necessary for suppliers to rapidly participate in eMarketplaces while allowing suppliers to focus on core competencies A core competency is something that a firm can do well and that meets the following three conditions specified by Hamel and Prahalad (1990):
  1. It provides customer benefits
  2. It is hard for competitors to imitate
  3. It can be leveraged widely to many products and markets.
. Honeywell, choosing to work with SAQQARA's solution, maintains control and continues to manage product content, while participating in multiple marketplaces.
