Netreon, Inc., today announced SANexec(R) Designer support for the latest 2Gb fabric switches, from Brocade: the SilkWorm(R) 12000 64- and 128-port Core Fabric Switch, the SilkWorm 3800 16-port Enterprise Fabric Switch, and the SilkWorm 3200 8-port Entry Fabric Switch. Storage professionals can now use SANexec Designer to easily design, plan and specify the configuration of sophisticated and complex SANs enabled by the Brocade intelligent platform for networking storage.

By leveraging the comprehensive capabilities of the Brocade Fabric Access Application Programming Interface (API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol. ), SANexec Designer can specify the configuration of a new or established SAN, discover a full picture of a current SAN, and streamline the optimization and growth of storage networks.  of the SilkWorm 12000 by including complete specification capabilities for the attributes of the switch and its relationship to the fabric. Netreon has enhanced the support for Brocade switches by including several pre-designed topologies that reflect Brocade best practices. With the addition of these latest Brocade products, SANexec Designer now supports the complete family of Brocade SilkWorm switches.

"Through our open API Open API (often referred to as OpenAPI) is a word used to describe sets of technologies that enable websites to interact with each other by using SOAP, Javascript any other web technology. , Brocade helps simplify the delivery of feature-rich data management, movement, and administration applications from companies like Netreon that are optimizing their applications to take full advantage of the intelligent features of the Brocade storage networking platform," said Jeffrey Brooks, Brocade Chief Marketing Officer. "We are pleased to work with Netreon to deliver products today that unlock the intelligence in the Brocade fabric for our mutual customers."

Licensees of SANexec Designer automatically receive the new functionality as part of their Annual Content Subscription (ACS (Asynchronous Communications Server) See network access server. ). The ACS ensures that all SANexec Designer product capabilities, new devices, changes to devices, usage scripts and compatibility checks are immediately available as soon as they are developed.

"We expose the extensive capabilities of the SilkWorm 2Gbs fabric switches in SANexec Designer so that a storage professional can easily plan their integration into the storage network," said Edward Cooper Edward Cooper may refer to:

, Netreon Vice President of Marketing. "We further simplify the integration of sophisticated Brocade switches by automating a variety of core/edge blueprints recommended by Brocade and including them in SANexec Designer."

Brocade SilkWorm switches are represented in the SANexec Designer device libraries and can be manipulated in the design palette using intelligent icons. By simplifying the tasks of cabling, configuration specification and validity checking Routines in a data entry program that test the input for correct and reasonable conditions, such as account numbers falling within a range, numeric data being all digits, dates having a valid month, day and year, etc.  in the SAN, SANexec Designer minimizes the overhead associated with preparing and configuring any size configuration from a small environment to a large-scale, enterprise SAN incorporating a sophisticated switch such as the SilkWorm 12000.

SANexec Designer

From conception to deployment, SANexec Designer transforms the disjointed steps of SAN planning into a streamlined process that removes complexity and insures smooth installation and deployment.

SANexec Designer represents not only the visual layout of the SAN but also the physical and logical properties of every device in the SAN fabric. SANexec Designer understands the various levels of interplay between SAN components and can validate a design by matching up the actual device properties with the rules and interoperability The capability of two or more hardware devices or two or more software routines to work harmoniously together. For example, in an Ethernet network, display adapters, hubs, switches and routers from different vendors must conform to the Ethernet standard and interoperate with each other.  matrices included in the application. Creating or copying a SAN layout in SANexec Designer actually develops a database of storage entities and their associated properties. The properties associated with these devices include all of their physical and logical attributes including GBIC (GigaBit Interface Converter) A hardware module used to attach network devices to fiber-based transmission systems such as Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet. The GBIC converts the serial electrical signals to serial optical signals and vice versa.  type, IP address, firmware A category of memory chips that hold their content without electrical power. Firmware includes flash, ROM, PROM, EPROM and EEPROM technologies. When holding program instructions, firmware can be thought of as "hard software." See flash memory, ROM, PROM, EPROM, EEPROM and FOTA.  version, and zoning type and membership. SANexec Designer can use this information to check their configuration, their connectivity, their relationships and their compatibility.
