SANTA CLARITA SYMPHONY HAS AMBITIOUS '06-'07 SEASON SET.

Robert E. Lawson, music director of the nonprofit Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Symphony, has unveiled the schedule of concerts and special events for the symphony's upcoming season.

Highlights include three major Masterpiece Concert Series performances by the full orchestra at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. , plus ``Bon Appetit!'' dinner concerts, ``Quartets & Coffee'' performances and community outreach events such as the Instrument Petting Zoo, designed to introduce young people to musical instruments.

 and the Santa Clarita Symphony bring an exciting variety of exquisite, world-class musical experiences to our local community.

Nor do music fans have to wait in line to buy tickets to Santa Clarita Symphony events. This season marks the first time the symphony is making season tickets and special event packages available online.

The first Masterpiece Concert will take place at 8 p.m. Nov. 11, featuring Sibelius' ``Symphony No. 2'' and celebrated soloist Armen Anassian Armen Anassian is an Armenian violinist who has recorded violin on numerous motion picture soundtracks such as artists such as King Kong, The Legend of Zoro, and The Navity Story. He has also played with the Los Angeles Opera and is concertmaster of the Santa Clarita Symphony.  playing Tchaikovsky's ``Violin Concerto A violin concerto is a concerto for solo violin (occasionally, two or more violins) and instrumental ensemble, customarily orchestra. Such works have been written from the Baroque period, when the solo concerto form was first developed, up through the present day. .''

The second Masterpiece event is the symphony's inaugural Family Concert, scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 28. Following a storytelling theme, the first all-ages program presents spirited performances of Rimsky-Korsakov's fantasy ``Scheherazade'' and Prokofiev's perennial favorite ``Peter and the Wolf For other uses, see .
Peter and the Wolf is a composition by Sergei Prokofiev written in 1936 after his return to the Soviet Union. It is a children's story (with both music and text by Prokofiev), spoken by a narrator accompanied by the orchestra.

The third full-orchestra concert, the Spring Spectacular at 8 p.m. April 7, brings piano virtuoso Bryan Pezzone back for an encore performance. He will perform Beethoven's ``Piano Concerto No. 4'' and his own ``Variations on Mozart Themes.''

Pezzone's program will also feature Mendelssohn's ``Symphony No. 4'' (Italian) and Mozart's ``Don Giovanni Overture.''

Tickets for the Masterpiece Concert Series performances range from $20 to $40. The symphony also has packages that combine one or two Masterpiece concerts with other major events, including the ``Bon Appetit'' dinners, also at discounted prices.
