Daniel Ortiz, 38, of Lancaster, was at home sleeping at 5:30 a.m. Monday when an unknown number of men knocked on his apartment door in the 45200 block of 7th Street East. ``When he said, `Who is it?,' they said they were sheriffs,'' said Deputy Brian Schoonmaker. ``As he opened the door, they began to fire.'' Fired from at least two guns, some bullets went through the partially opened door opening and others pierced the door itself, hitting Ortiz in the abdomen and left shoulder, Schoonmaker said. After the gunman left, Ortiz's girlfriend called the Sheriff's Department, officials said. ``We're still talking to the family members,'' said Schoonmaker. ``We have no motive yet. We're looking into some relationship problems.'' |
