SANTA CLARITA: BRIEFLY : CITY TO GIVE OUT FREE TREE MULCH.


SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - With spring already in full swing, as any self-respecting gardener knows, it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Cut your gardening bill, and pick up some for free this Saturday at the Santa Clarita Recycling facility, which has been grinding up Christmas trees since Santa slid out of town months ago.

The mulch is available from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the 23802 Pine St. center. The offering is part of the city's Earth Month program.

SANTA CLARITA - The city is opening a new Information Center at Canyon Country Park and it needs help.

Volunteers are wanted to staff the center from 9 a.m. until noon Mondays and Wednesdays and from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The center will be open for three months as part of a pilot program.

SANTA CLARITA - Want to throw away some paint, motor oil or other toxic chemical? Save it up for the county's annual Household Hazardous Waste Household hazardous waste (HHW) is the term for common household chemicals and substances for which the owner no longer has a use. Exhibiting many of the same dangerous characteristics as fully regulated hazardous waste, HHW is not regulated by the EPA.  Roundup.

The county will accept motor oil, paint, paint thinner, turpentine turpentine, yellow to brown semifluid oleoresin exuded from the sapwood of pines, firs, and other conifers. It is made up of two principal components, an essential oil and a type of resin that is called rosin. , cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides, herbicides and household and car batteries.

The roundup will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. April 20 at College of the Canyon's parking lot No. 7, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.

Residents can bring up to 5 gallons or 50 pounds of toxics for each vehicle.
