SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Redevelopment panel to tour several cities

SANTA CLARITA - The Newhall Redevelopment Committee will tour other cities' development areas today to gather ideas for local improvements.

The committee was appointed to help the city of Santa Clarita decide how to develop its Newhall Redevelopment project. The city originally proposed an expansive $1.1 billion plan, but agreed to scale it back after lawsuits were filed by the Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi²  Water Agency. The proposed plan includes $12 million in improvements.

``By looking at what other cities have done, the committee can develop ideas for the city's redevelopment plan,'' said Glenn Adamick, an economic development associate for Santa Clarita.

The committee will tour Monrovia, Duarte, San Dimas and Claremont from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. The committee is made up of residents, business owners and property owners.

City seeks input on road expansion

SANTA CLARITA - Public input is being sought on the city's plan to extend Magic Mountain Parkway to the Canyon Country area.

The 4.5-mile roadway would extend across San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the  and the Porta Bella development to connect with Via Princessa west of Rainbow Glen in Canyon Country.

The construction would not begin until the Porta Bella project is cleaned, following contamination from the former Bermite munitions mu·ni·tion
