SANTA ANITA: DIXIE DOT COM GETS DUE.Byline: Kevin Modesti Daily News Staff Writer The San Francisco-area tracks rarely produce one good 3-year-old a season, let alone two good ones, as they did last winter. The only thing stranger than Dixie Dot Com and Event of the Year showing up in the same generation is the fact they never raced against each other. First one got hurt and then the other, so Dixie Dot Com had to wait for the $316,000 San Fernando Stakes at Santa Anita on Saturday to take a shot at the better-publicized Event of the Year and stomp him by 4-1/2 lengths. Event of the Year, ridden by Corey Nakatani, was a heavy favorite in the field of eight 4-year-olds. Old reputations die hard. ``I looked at Event of the Year in the paddock,'' said Dixie Dot Com trainer Bill Morey Jr., ``and if I can say anything, I'd say we grew a little bit more than he did.'' But he'd finished second three times in a row. ``This is a great way to break our seconditis,'' said Morey, 59, who brought six horses to Southern California and has been living in a trailer. Dixie Dot Com ran the 1 1/16-mile race in 1:41.06, a sharp time on a track that acted dull most of the day. Morey said he'll aim for the Feb. 6 Strub Stakes. For Event of the Year, who was unbeaten and favored for the Kentucky Derby before he fractured a knee last April, it was the second straight defeat since his return. He was third in the Malibu Stakes on opening day. ``He ran well,'' said Richard Mandella, who trains Event of the Year. ``The winner ran a hell of a race.''
