SANTA'S GOT A BRAND-NEW WAG.

Byline: Jaime Spangrude Staff Writer

Christmas is just a week away, so don't forget to include your furry friends in all the gift-giving fun. Check out the latest in this year's must-have accessories - whether your pet has been naughty or nice:

BUILT TO LAST: From Bamboo's home and play lines comes the Five Star General, a star-shaped toy with blue and green reversible camouflage print. Built to withstand the toughest play, this squeaker toy is great to bring to the park and can even be played with in the pool - it floats! Available at Petsmart stores, as well as online at petsmart.com and target.com. Suggested retail price: $8.99.

SNUGGLE UP: Also from Bamboo's home and play line is the Dog Sleep Over Bag (available for cats too). This sleeping bag gives dogs a reversible training blanket and place to rest while on the go. Attached are two durable bone chew toys to keep dogs busy at play while the bag is open. The bag is easy to store and transport. Available at Petsmart stores, as well as online at petsmart.com and target.com. Suggested retail price: $19.99.

FLYING FRISBEE: Bamboo's Combat Flying Calf makes a great gift or stocking stuffer. This mini disc is designed for small dogs and pups and has a bold cow print. Made of soft material that prevents injury to teeth and gums, the toy is also built to outlast other plush pet toys. Fun for the park or pool. Available at Petsmart stores, as well as online at petsmart.com and target.com. Suggested retail price: $5.99.

BAD TO THE BONE: Another great toy made by Bamboo for small dogs is the Combat Squeaker Bone Dog Toy. The set includes two durable, tropical print bones that can be played with on land or in water. Available at Petsmart stores, as well as online at petsmart.com and target.com. Suggested retail price: $5.99.

PORTABLE POOCH: The Boat Canvas Carrier (Brown Bag) is a double-layered 18-ounce chocolate-brown canvas tote that features a side pocket and zipper to close. Comes in many colors including tangerine, navy blue, kelly green and hot pink. Available for $130 at www.wagwear.com.

TALKING TOYS: The Babble Ball is an interactive toy that talks and makes sounds with the slightest touch. Your pet can expect to hear funny jokes and animal-like sounds that are so real they'll think they're playing with a real animal! The nice thing about this toy is that it turns off automatically when play time is over. The balls are sold in six different styles and sizes, with a suggested retail price of $8.99 to $11.99. Available for purchase at Your Pet Pal, 19749 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills. (818) 704-5949.

A NEW LEASH ON LIFE: Like walking your dog at night? If so, you might want to get a new collar and leash combination, Co-leash Night Glow with Kryptaglow. It reflects headlights and glows in the dark for up to 12 hours with as little as five minutes of exposure to any light source, providing an easier way for owners to keep track of their pets. Available for $23.99 at www.co-leash.com.

SHOPPING IN STYLE: The Clean Pet Shopper is a soft and fully reversible shopping-cart cover designed to provide a comfortable and safe environment for small pets, and allows owners to shop hands-free. It's portable and machine washable, and comes with a safety strap and travel tote. The shopper can fit up to two animals. Available for $34.99 at www.cleanpetshopper.com.

DOGGIE DISH: This fun, hand-painted dog dish is made of metal in the shape of man's best friend. The moveable head and tail are on springs, it has bead eyes and nose and comes with two aluminum bowls for food and water. It is 35 inches wide and 11 inches tall. Comes in a deep brown color for $15.20 at www.bombaykids.com.

THE FINER THINGS IN LIFE: Style and class are taught in a witty series appropriately titled the ``Pampered Pooch'' series. The first of the set, ``Yuppy Puppy: The Art of Pampering Your Pooch'' (BowTie Press; $8.95), gives tips on providing dogs with a lavish lifestyle. The next book, ``Don't Pet a Pooch ... While He's Pooping: Etiquette for Dogs and Their People'' (BowTie Press; $8.95), features 112 rules for teaching good manners to your four-legged friends. And last in the series is ``Dog Parties: How to Party With Your Pup'' (BowTie Press; $8.95) offers everything you need to know about hosting and attending a dog party, including decorations, games, invitations and menus.

LOOKING FOR LOVE: ``Fixed Mix Seeks Same: The First Book of Dog Personal Ads'' (Andrews McMeel Publishing; $12.95) presents photos of single dogs looking for a mate. With each photo comes a written personal ad that is full of goofy humor. The book contains six chapters: Females, Males, Puppy Love, Been Around the Block, Anything Goes and Chance Meetings.

FIDO FINDER, www.FidoFinder.com, is a new Web site devoted to helping people find their lost dog. This site is great for people who have lost a dog, found a stray or are looking to keep their dog safe at home. Register your dog before he ever gets lost; that way, if your dog ever gets lost and is found, you will be contacted and your pet will be returned to you. Fido Finder also provides resources for actually going out and looking for dogs, like printing lost-dog posters with the dog's picture, description and phone number, as well as tips for finding a lost dog.
