SANDWICH TOASTER PRESENTS ELECTRIC SHOCK AND FIRE HAZARD

SANDWICH TOASTER PRESENTS ELECTRIC SHOCK AND FIRE HAZARD
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) warns consumers that it has become aware of electric sandwich toasters sold under the brand names "Hottop" or "Supersnacker," which are not listed by UL and which bear improper and unauthorized references to Underwriters Laboratories.
Distributed through various mail order firms, the sandwich toasters bear an improper and unauthorized reference to UL consisting of "UL Listings: E91224(S), E56070(S), E7946(A), E50367(S), E50111(S), E64331(S)" on the appliance and its packaging carton. This reference does not represent a valid UL Listing Mark. The only correct and authorized reference to Underwriters Laboratories on this type of product would consist of a symbol represented by "UL" in a circle, the word "Listed," a four character alphanumeric code, and a product identifier such as "Sandwich Toaster."
Market samples tested by UL reveal that these sandwich toasters do not comply with UL's requirements and may present a potential risk for electric shock and fire hazard. Neither the sandwich toaster units nor the associated packaging had been authorized to bear a reference to UL.
Consumers who have these sandwich toasters are urged to discontinue using them immediately.
UL is an independent, not-for-profit product safety certification organization that operates four major testing facilities in the United States and more than 200 inspection offices throughout the world.
