SAN FERNANDO VALLEY THEATERS, ACTORS HONORED WITH ADA AWARDS.

The Valley Theatre League held the Thirteenth Annual Artistic Director Achievement Awards Nov. 20 at the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park. Theaters and actors from throughout the San Fernando Valley were honored.

Hosted by Fred Willard, with assistance from his wife, writer Mary Willard, the evening featured musical numbers from the past season's musical theatre hits and the usual off-the cuff ad lib An earlier sound card from Ad Lib, Inc., Quebec City, that, for a while, was the de facto standard for synthesized background music for computer games. It was a precursor to the MIDI standard. hilarity this annual event is known for and always delivers.

Among the recipients from a slate of nominations in 35 categories was actress Mariette Hartley, who was honored for Best Actress and Best One Person Play for If You Get to Bethlehem, You've Gone Too Far at the Whitefire Theatre. Hartley was the star, as well as the author of this auto-biographical play.

The NoHo Arts Center received the most individual awards, a total of seven, while their production of Barnum tied with Love in the DMZ DMZ - Demilitarized Zone

 at Actors Workout Studio with four awards each as most honored productions.

Other strong showings were by the complex of theaters at West Valley Playhouse, which amassed a total of six awards between their three companies and The Road Theatre Company, which took home four awards, including three for Bunbury.

The Valley Theatre League is the association of professional theatres based in the San Fernando and adjacent valleys.
