SAN FERNANDO VALLEY BRIEFLY\Computers stolen from Sylmar school.

Byline: Daily News

SYLMAR - Thieves broke into a Sylmar elementary school over the weekend, taking thousands of dollars in computer and other electronic equipment, school officials said.

The theft of nearly $15,000 in equipment was discovered Monday at Osceola Street Elementary School, said Principal Jean Brown.

"It's devastating," Brown said. "These were items purchased from popcorn and candy sales, there are no funds for this equipment."

Metal grates had been installed to keep burglars from entering, but somehow the thieves gained entrance, Brown said. "It could have been that the locks were tampered with, or it was someone with a key - I'm not sure," she said.
