SAMSUNG DOUBLES BANDWIDTH OF DDR SDRAM DEVICES.

Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., San Jose, Calif., a leading semiconductor memory manufacturer, has reasserted that it is offering the most complete line of the fastest DDR (Double Data Rate) SDRAM memory devices available in the industry continuing up though the company's roadmap for DDR 333/400 Mbps and DDRII devices.

In compliance with the newly-approved JEDEC DDRII specifications, Samsung has successfully doubled the bandwidth of its DDR SDRAM devices to 400 Mbps for main memory and to 700 Mbps for graphics memory. The devices' high graphics memory bandwidth has made Samsung's DDR SDRAM the most widely used memory for high-end, 3d-graphics cards the world over. And, most recently, Samsung announced it is a key supplier for the DDR SDRAM memory used by Microsoft for the Xbox.

DDR SDRAM, with its attractive price and performance, is rapidly becoming the memory of choice for a wide range of applications. DDR is especially suitable for applications ranging from PC main memory, high-end graphics and networking, including high-density servers and set-top boxes, to hard disk drives. And, since DDR SDRAM devices can operate on voltages as low as 2.5 volts, they are also ideal for use in mobile devices, such as notebook PCs.

"Samsung prides itself on its ability to deliver advanced technology products ahead of the competition," said Tom, Quinn, vice president marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. "Our customers will continue to be the real winners as they are getting incredible performance from this powerful DDR SDRAM memory technology."

By working with Samsung, customers have access to the most advanced DDR SDRAM memory technology available from the company with a proven record of producing high-volume components in a timely manner. Samsung is currently the largest volume supplier of DDR components and has the highest number of industry-validated memory modules available.

Samsung has lead the industry in DDR technology since July 1997 when the company first proposed the bi-directional DDR SDRAM standard to JEDEC. Samsung demonstrated the first DDR silicon in a 128Mb device along with VIA's chipset in December 1997.

Today, Samsung again leads the industry with a 256 Mb monolithic DDR device currently in production and is already sampling a 512 Mb monolithic DDR device. Samsung's production is yielding a substantial portion of DDR 333 and expects this to grow to mainstream status by the fourth quarter of 2002.
