SAMSUNG CHOOSES CONEXANT'S SOFTAMC AUDIO/MODEM CHIPSET.

Samsung Electronics has chosen Conexant's SoftAMC audio/modem chipset to provide modem connectivity and audio support for the new Samsung SENS 640 notebook computer.

Conexant's SoftAMC is a low-cost audio/modem solution designed specifically for mobile computers.

"With integrated audio and modem functionality in one device, Conexant's SoftAMC is the optimal solution for our SENS 640 notebook," said Sang-Kun Jung, marketing director for Samsung Electronics. "The product's feature-rich design makes it the ideal choice for customers who need easy-to-use Internet access around the globe."

Samsung's SENS 640 notebook computer is targeted for the Asian and European markets, and features an Intel Mobile Celeron Processor, up to 256 MB SDRAM, 3D accelerated graphics, an Intel 440MX CoreLogic chipset, an integrated floppy disk drive and CD-ROM drive, and a 12.1 inch or 14.1 inch thin film transistor (TFT) display.

Conexant's SoftAMC eliminates the need for a separate bus interface device, making it compatible with any bus configuration and allowing it to achieve the lowest possible system cost. The SoftAMC system solution offers enhanced modem features including caller ID tracking, voice over IP (VoIP) and wake-on-ring functionality. Going beyond baseline modem functionality, the SoftAMC audio/modem solution also supports Conexant's soft audio technologies, including its professional-quality wavetable synthesis solutions.

"We're excited to work with Samsung to bring the latest audio/modem technology to their customers," said Tom Lau, senior product line manager for AC-Link products within Conexant's Personal Computing Division. "As the industry's first fully integrated audio and modem codec, the SoftAMC offers an array of modem connectivity features combined with advanced audio functionality."

Conexant has been a supplier of dial-up modem chipsets for more than 30 years, and is the world's largest supplier of both client-side and central-site dial-up modem solutions. Its solutions include full-hardware modems, full-software modems, host-controlled modems, modems with USB support and modems that combine audio and modem support in a single solution.
