, but all of that changed Friday.

A court order had forced her just a day earlier to choose among six of her 16 beloved pets - leaving the rest behind at the local animal shelters.

She thought would only save three dogs and three cats, but people have contacted her offering to adopt the animals.

``I'm so relieved,'' the 32-year-old Sylmar woman said. ``I've felt like . . . I was trying to do this all by myself.''

Following a Daily News story about Tabor's plight, the animal lover has been able to find homes for six of her dogs - including two in her own home.

Buddy, a white pit bull, and Heidi, a German shepherd German shepherd, breed of large, muscular working dog perfected in Germany at the turn of the 20th cent. It stands about 25 in. Two other dogs were placed in a foster residence with Valerie Hamer in Canyon Country, to be held for the next few weeks.

Tabor was grateful to Valerie for rescuing the pets - if only for a brief period of time.

``At least the dogs will have grass to run on and they'll be out in the open air,'' Tabor said.

That's when animal officials stepped in, seizing her pets and placing them in Valley shelters in December. A frantic attempt to save the animals forced her to bring 12 dogs and four cats back to her lot - a violation of the three-dog, three-cat limit allowed under city law.

By February, officials were back at her home again. Tabor was arrested for violating the city codes and pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor charge of having too many animals.

The judge sentenced her to three years probation Wednesday and told her to remain in compliance with the law or face six months in jail, according to according to

``It's great to have them home,'' she said. ``Shadow's running around and enjoying the land.''

She plans to choose her third dog after the rest of the dogs have been safely adopted, although she's hoping the remaining pup will be Samson, a Rottweiler Rottweiler (rŏt`wīlər), breed of sturdy working dog developed from a Roman cattle dog introduced into S Germany more than 1,900 years ago. ``I think having him go to another home would be too much for him,'' she said. ``But I'll be glad just to get the animals out there and make sure that they are safe.''
