SAM NAVARRO, MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY EQUITIES ANALYST, JOINS FURMAN SELZ INC. HIRING INTENSIFIES FIRM'S HEALTHCARE COVERAGE

NEW YORK, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Sam Navarro, a top Medical Technology Analyst, has joined Furman Selz Incorporated as a managing director in its equity research division. Mr. Navarro's appointment further strengthens the firm's equity research coverage of the healthcare industry, which includes the managed care and cost containment sectors, biotechnology, and generic and drug delivery areas. Mr. Navarro is the firm's second new equities analyst in a three week period following Computer Software Analyst Terence Quinn's hiring and signals the continued aggressive expansion of Furman Selz's Equity Research Division.
Before joining Furman Selz, Mr. Navarro was a Managing Director of Healthcare and Medical Technology at Needham and Co. At Furman Selz he will continue following medical devices and technology companies with particular emphasis on emerging growth areas of the industry. Mr. Navarro is best known for covering the minimally invasive surgery industry and has for three years hosted a conference on that subject. Prior to joining Needham & Co., Mr. Navarro was a Managing Director and chairman of Ladenburg, Thalmann Asset Management, Inc., an investment advisory firm.
"Sam Navarro's considerable expertise and distinguished track record in the medical technology sector is the perfect complement to our healthcare coverage and will be of tremendous value to Furman Selz and our investor clients. Sam's focus on this dynamic, innovative area adds the fourth leg to our substantial healthcare coverage," said Michael R. Weisberg, Senior Managing Director and Director of Equity Research."
Brian P. Friedman, Executive Vice President and head of Investment Banking, further commented, "The addition of Sam Navarro maximizes our healthcare coverage and positions Furman Selz to aggressively pursue investment banking opportunities in the multi-billion dollar medical technology sector and the overall healthcare industry. Coupled with the recent hiring of Computer Software Analyst Terry Quinn, Furman Selz has made a commitment to the technology arena. A full complement of bankers will be hired to meet this challenge."
