SAM FELDMAN, CSUN TEACHER 'SANTA CLAUS AND BUDDHA' INSPIRED DECADES OF JOURNALISTS.

He inspired countless journalism students, and went the extra mile to stay in touch with old friends.

Sam Feldman, who taught journalism from 1970 to 1995 at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an , died May 10 of heart- and diabetes-related problems while on vacation in Kauai. He was 73.

``Sam understood the way the journalism world should be and was. He was a warm and friendly teacher,'' said Jim Yeager, a former student of Feldman's who also became a friend.

Feldman taught mass communication, news reporting, public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most  and sports tutorial classes at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge . He also had worked as sports editor at the Fontana Herald News and the San Bernardino Sun-Telegram.

``He was a life-long sports lover,'' Yeager said. He enjoyed all sports, especially tennis. Sam understood sports as a metaphor of life.''

Feldman always used a manual Royal typewriter - never an electric typewriter or computer, recalled his second wife, Heidi Feldman, who was in her future husband's first class at CSUN in 1970.

``He lived life to the last day. He lived for the moment and didn't dwell on the past,'' said Heidi Feldman. ``He would say, 'This is it. I want to make the most if it.' He was a very positive person.''

Samuel Feldman was born July 3, 1931, in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
. He moved with his mother and brother to Phoenix, Ariz., and later to Fontana.

He graduated in 1954 from the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission  with a degree in communications. He earned a master's degree at Redlands University and a doctorate at the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools. Since 2001, UCLA has enrolled over 33,000 total students, and that number is steadily rising. .

Feldman is survived by his wife of 26 years, Heidi Feldman; daughters Faith Feldman, Cobi Lemke and Julia Feldman; five grandchildren; and a brother, Arnold Feldman. He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael and Tyler.

A memorial service was held Saturday at Pacific Coast Church in Pacific Grove. Feldman was cremated.
