SALUTING FATHERHOOD MEN'S GROUP PLANS TO CONDUCT SERVICE.Byline: Holly Andres Staff Writer RESEDA - Setting an example as both Christians and fathers, the men's group at First United Methodist Church First United Methodist Church is a common name for the first United Methodist church established in a particular locality. But the men's group members say they are up to the challenge, having participated and organized the service twice in the past. ``It is unusual for us not to have an ordained pastor present but we have a lot of people who could deliver the message if we didn't have a guest pastor,'' said Don Johnson, a church member since 1963. ``We're leading and not taking the easy road. I think having the men's group lead the service is a real good example for our youth.'' After breakfast at the meetings, group members read a section of the Bible and discuss how it relates to issues in their own life. That's how my father was, too. He taught me continuous support for the family. My father went to church with us. He didn't just drop us off and go home. He was involved in the little things in our life that were important to us,'' said Johnson. ``Maybe things weren't verbalized, but he was always there for us.''
