SALTON MAXIM GETS PERSONAL WITH MARILYN MONROE.

MT. PROSPECT, Ill.-Salton-Maxim Housewares is banking on the ageless charm of '50s diva Marilyn Monroe by using both her name and image to brand its newest line of personal care products, which range from massagers to hair dryers.

Debuting at the 1999 International Housewares Show in Chicago, the new Marilyn Monroe Personal Care line consists of three categories: Spa Therapy, a line of wellness products; Travel, a line of portable travel accessories; and Glamour, a beauty and hair-care line.

Products in the Spa Therapy line include several massager products, among them a dual-head massager, a professional tapping massager, massage chairs in black or ivory leather recliner styles and the Sound Magic Massage chair, a combination sound selector and mat massager, featuring folding chair convenience. Other massagers in the line include two massagers for use in the tub, a hydro-massager that mounts onto the side of the tub for whirlpool-like action and a handheld body and bath massager, as well as an infrared tapping foot massager. Additional therapeutic products include an aromatherapy unit with three oil blends and the Aroma Dream Heatstone with oil, a glazed ceramic unit that plugs in and heats essential oils.

In the Travel line, items include a travel plug set with case, for use in adapters around the world. Other compact products include a curling duo, a retractable, collapsible curling brush and styling wand, an 800- watt travel dryer, a travel steamer, travel iron, jumbo travel rollers and folding travel mirror.

In the Glamour line, several hair dryers capitalize on Marilyn's '50s appeal with retro styling and lipstick-red accents. Items range from a 1600-watt retro-style hair dryer with two-speed and heat settings to an 1875-watt dryer in pearl white with red accents, cool-shot button and three heat settings. Other hair-care and beauty items include a 1400- watt bonnet dryer and a Stagelight portable makeup mirror with regular and magnification swivel mirrors.
