SALES OF PORSCHE SPORTS CARS SHOW SOLID INCREASE IN JANUARY
RENO, Nev., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- American Porsche dealers reported that sales in the first month of the new year showed a solid increase over the January total of a year ago. For the month just closed, Porsche dealers retailed 419 sports cars, for a 74 percent increase over the 241 vehicles sold in the same period last year.
The company noted that sales of its 911 range more than doubled, registering 358 deliveries in the month just ended, up from a total of 158 for the comparable period a year ago. In the month just completed, sales of the new 1992 Porsche 968 have been restricted as not all dealers across the country had adequate supplies early in the month.
Porsche spokesman Ed Triolo acknowledged that the January 1991 results had been severely depressed due to the grim economic climate and first effects of the luxury tax. "Still," Triolo added, "this January's result reflects an improvement in customer attitude in a few key markets, along with a strong effort by our dealers in bringing people into their stores."
