South San Francisco has several industrial parks; its manufactures include medical supplies and equipment, foods, paint, paper products, consumer goods, and clothing. , Calif., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The continuing enormous popularity of Sky Dancers Sky Dancers were a toy marketed by Galoob Toys between 1994 and 2000. Galoob was purchased by Hasbro in 1998.

"Sky Dancers has certainly captured the hearts of little girls all over America and around the world," says Scott Masline, Galoob's vice president of marketing for girl's toys.
Brought to market against the conventional wisdom that flying was a play pattern of interest only to little boys, the original Sky Dancers doll is a slender ballerina who comes with a beautiful handheld launcher. When the doll is placed on the launcher and the launcher's string is pulled, the doll spins around and around, and as she spins her winged arms rise, lifting her gracefully into the air.
The huge success of Sky Dancers has inspired Galoob to expand its offerings in the category. New Pretty Lights Sky Dancers(TM) dolls feature light-up "jewels" on their chests and light-up ballet slippers, and their launchers light up too. Also new are mini-sized Sky Dancers Fairy Flyers(TM), which include flying animal friends as well as dolls, and the choice of a bunny, pony or flower launcher.
"We've taken a successful toy and have built it into a brand," says Scott Masline. "We see endless opportunities to extend the success of Sky Dancers on the years ahead. In this industry, everyone wishes for a toy with 'legs', one that will have the kind of longevity associated with only the most successful brands. Well, Sky Dancers not only has legs, it has wings -- and the sky's the limit."
This success has also predictably inspired a rash of imitations, commonly known as knock-offs. "Many of these infringe the intellectual property rights in the Sky Dancers product, and we have been quick to take actions against them," says William G. Catron, Galoob's executive vice president and general counsel. "We have already succeeded in stopping the importation of certain Sky Dancers knock-offs into the U.S., and we have either stopped or are in the process of stopping several other infringing products in the Far East and other countries. We've established a worldwide policing network in an attempt to detect early in the process the manufacture, sale, distribution or transportation of unauthorized Sky Dancers dolls."
